University Project: Poster Creation

As part of one of the modules , I was tasked to design a poster for a contemporary ballet adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale at the English National Opera. The image will be used in all our creative media, including promotions, marketing and communications. This includes posters, brochures, programmes and digital media materials. It will also be used for fine art prints and postcards for sale in the ENO Shop. Upon completion it was to be pitched to clients, in this scenario the module and program leader.

Concept

This poster's theme was centred on identity, oppression, and power. The poster's theme is abstract in nature. The image's darkness reflects the mood of the story being presented, while an illusion of a stage contributes to the overall theatrical feel. The lack of a face on the handmaiden emphasises her individuality being taken away from her, while the man's hand moving the handmaid about like a puppet emphasises the concept even more.
